> Spain will be making their 18th Champions Trophy appearance. The Iberian nation has been present in each of the last five editions, including 2008.
> Dutchman Maurits Hendriks led Spain to their only Champions Trophy overall victory in 2004, after leading the Dutch national team to victory in 2000.
> Hendriks also won an Olympic gold medal with Holland in Sydney in 2000.
> In 2007, Spain placed fifth in the Champions Trophy in Kuala Lumpur, their lowest finish in the competition since 1998.

> Teun de Nooijer is the most productive CT goalscorer among players present in Rotterdam. De Nooijer has netted 32 times and he has scored in each of the last 12 editions, which is in itself a record.
> The all-time record for Champions Trophy goals is 40 and is shared by Pakistan's Sohail Abbas and Holland's Taeke Taekema. Neither player will be active in Rotterdam.
> Jeroen Hertzberger will be playing on the pitch he is accustomed to as a HC Rotterdam first team player.
> Hertzberger's major breakthrough came in the past season, when he became the top scorer of the inaugural Euro Hockey League season.
> Sander van der Weide, who lives and plays club hockey in Spain and will celebrate his 32nd birthday on the day of the match, was ruled out injured just before the tournament. His replacement is Wouter Jolie.
> Jolie's inclusion means that Dutch champions Bloemendaal will be represented by seven players in the Dutch squad.

> 18-year-old Roc Oliva is the only teenager at the 2008 Champions Trophy.
> In May, Spanish national team defender Rodrigo Garza won the Dutch domestic title with Bloemendaal, which beat countryman Santi Freixa's Amsterdam in the final of the play-offs.
> Garza and Freixa are two of 11 players in the Spanish squad that were present when Spain won their only Champions Trophy in 2004.
